Pregnancy Care
I would like to see you early in your pregnancy. The first visit should be at 8-10 weeks. At this visit I will perform a medical check-up and plan your pregnancy care with you.
You will have blood tests to check your Blood group and Full Blood count. I routinely screen for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Rubella, Varicella, HIV and Syphilis. I will also check your vitamin D, thyroid function and a urine sample for infection. I offer and recommend screening for foetal abnormalities and Down’s syndrome.
Subsequent visits for most women will be –
- 4 weekly until 28 weeks
- every 2-3 weeks until 36 weeks
- weekly until birth.
Women with High Risk pregnancies such as twins, women with certain medical

I encourage you and your support person to ask any questions. We can discuss them during your visits.
To prepare for your first obstetric visit, please check that you have:
- A referral from your GP
- A copy of any recent blood tests or ultrasounds
- The date and result of your last pap smear
- Your Medicare card and health insurance details
I would like to see you at 6-8 weeks after birth of the baby to check your and your baby’s health and discuss contraception (birth control).
